Celebrating #PrideMonth at Work
If you follow us, you know Meduvi strongly believes in an inclusive and diverse work environment where everyone feels welcome. With that said, we wanted to celebrate #PrideMonth with tips on how you can create an LGBTQ allyship in the workplace.
If you were unaware, LGBTQ Pride Month honors the Stonewall Uprising from June 28-July 3, 1969. Now, the month of June is full of celebrations, festivals, and marches all over the globe.
How can you become an ally and encourage allyship in the office?
Get educated!
It’s hard to advocate or educate others if we don’t educate ourselves first. Click here to access several different resources to get started!
Be Open-Minded
Everyone has a story. To build trust and establish open communication, we need to genuinely listen and engage when others share their experiences or perspectives with us.
While pronouns are not exclusive to the LGBTQ community, they are a great start to increasing inclusivity. Although it may seem like a small gesture to refer to someone by their preferred pronouns, it establishes mutual respect and understanding.
Use your platform
Social media isn’t going anywhere — use it to your advantage! If you want to advocate for something you believe in, use your platform!
If you take a look at our social media, you’ll see industry-exclusive content along with the effort to uplift and empower minority voices. Not only does advocacy humanize a brand and spread awareness, but it can also be the reason people choose to do business with you.
Speak up
If you see something wrong, speak up! It could range from correcting someone for using the incorrect pronouns or telling someone it’s not okay to use the word gay negatively.
Not everyone feels comfortable standing up for themselves, and sometimes they aren’t taken seriously. If you see this happening, use your voice to make it right.
There are several things you can do this month to celebrate Pride. We have attached a few resources to help you get started. We hope this encourages you to educate yourself and others about the LGTBQ community, the meaning of Pride Month, and overall, become an ally.
